Gabriel García Márquez (wiki)

What I’ve read
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Love in the Time of Cholera
The Autumn of the Patriarch
Why? In any Marquez sentence (which can be 2 to 3 pages long), every phrase, even a four or five word extract, is a virtuouso performance that astonishes. A random opening of any of his work is deeply satisfying. He is a truly indispensable author. Every page is a work of art, a wonder, and it is clear to me why many regard him as the greatest author of the twentieth century. (I can generally only get through about 1 sentence a night, but I love it.)

What I’ve read
The Cave
Blindness
Why? His writing is beautiful and wonderfully profound. (Somehow he reminds me of a wise old Yoda.)
Haruki Murakami (wiki)

What I’ve read
The Wild Sheep Chase
Kafka on the Shore
Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman (short stories)
Why? Mukakami is mysterious and delightful to read. His unexpected paths lead most often to beautifully crafted and yet not completely resolved endings.
Umberto Eco (wiki)

What I’ve read
The Name of the Rose
Foucault’s Pendulum
Why? His writing contains universes of meaning while still being clear, fast and exciting.
[I would love to quote very short excerpts of their work here, but I'm worried about copyright. Anyone know if I can or can't quote here?]
M,
Oh, seems like I’m missing a lot of good reads. Thanks for this, I should consider buying them in my next book store visit. I’ve heard so much about Gabriel García Márquez, but I don’t know why I’ve never read any of his books. I’ll put him on the top of my list.
The too cold winter here in Chicago keeps me in my apartment after work that I seldom visit the bookstore these days. But with your recommendation, I should find time to get this books the soonest.
I wish you well.

I just finished “The Autumn of the Patriarch”. It is such an amazing book. He wrote it over 7 years from 1968 to 1975, yet its only a few hundred pages. But every page is as rich in life as a jungle or an ocean.
M,
The title alone is already interesting. I hope I’ll get the chance to go to a bookstore soon. Must be a really good read. I must find it out.
I wish you well.
